Asbury Park, New Jersey – Rock WILK, playwright, filmmaker and performer, is having an event at the Asbury Park Library in search of support for his new creative venture, The Red Plaid Suitcase. Originally a play set to open at the Signature Theatre in NYC on June 12th, 2020 as part of the Downtown Urban Arts Festival, COVID shut it down, along with the rest of the world, and now, five years later, a film based on the theatrical script has emerged. 

There will be a screening of Rock’s second feature film, This is the End for Me, which had its Premier at Cinema Village in NYC as part of the Manhattan Film Festival in 2024, where it was recognized with a Best Coming of Age Feature Award.

Composer Steve Peckman will be creating the score for The Red Plaid Suitcase, as he did for Rock’s first two films, including The Center of Distance, which garnered numerous Best Original Score Awards at various IMDB qualifying  festivals around the world in 2022. 

This is the End for Me is the second part of a seventeen year, three part trilogy that began with Rock's first play, BROKE WIDE OPEN in 2007, and is an exploration of the astounding, resilient and beautifully tragic journey of a woman who had to relinquish her newborn son to foster care and the life that led to that profound moment. An inspiring story, a compelling adventure, This is the End for Me is the part of the trilogy that remains unknown. Who was the father? What were the circumstances of the relationship that birthed a child, and why is this man a complete, unknown mystery? A secret? 

This event, seeking support for the production of The Red Plaid Suitcase, will be at The Asbury Park Library, 500 1st Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ 07712 on January 8th, 2026 at 7pm.
